The Kikhei Union is of Vilani descent and pro Imperium, with
a Sydite minority. New Heaven was settled by militant Solomani racist and religious
fundamentalists. A small population of ~
80,000 Vargr lived in New Heaven, as laborers and second class citizens. The Condor Republic was settled by Terrans from
greater Latin America.
In 992, during the Solomani Rim War, New Heaven and Condor Republic
forces launched a full scale invasion of the Kikhei Union, with the intent of
wiping it off the map. It was suspected
that the Solomani provided funding and other resources and assets to New Heaven
and the Condor Republic. The Imperium
was unable to provide support and resources for the Kikhei Union, but
encouraged mercenary units to support the Union. The Khuur League, in support of the minority
Sydite population, provided mercenaries and advisors to the Kikhei Union.
Eventually the war between the Imperium and the Solomani
waned. Terran support for New Heaven
dried up, and the Imperium was able to provide additional resources to the Kikhei
Union, which was then able to defeat the aggressors. Surgical strikes against the Condor Republic
forced them to unilaterally sue for peace, leaving New Heaven to continue its
xenophobic crusade alone against the Union.
The Condor Republic had been led into the war by a small
hawkish faction that had risen in influence by machinations of New Heaven and
Solomani agents. Once the war was brought
home to New Condor, it quickly folded.
Once the tide turned, the zealots of New Heaven fought a vicious
and protracted war, and ultimately attempted to execute a Samson Option. New Heavens leaders made final attempt to
destroy Sham, rather than lose it to the infidels of Kikhei, which ultimately led
to the regime change that ended the war.
Casualties exceeded 30% of the population and would have
been much higher if the Samson Option had come to fruition. Many members of the New Heaven ruling class fled
the planet, as they correctly suspected that they would be tried for war
crimes.
1002 -1105 In the hundred years since the war ended, Imperium and Khuur League based corporations have invested heavily in Sham, rebuilding it’s destroyed infrastructure. This resulted in a migrant population boom of sophonts that came for the construction jobs, and have since made Sham their home.
Goverment
Circa 990 Sham was ruled by three powers. Sham’s population
of 20 million was divided between The Kikhei Union a Representative Democracy,
which had a population of 9 million, New Heaven a Religious Dictatorship, with
7 million and the remaining 4 million lived in the Condor Republic, a
Charismatic Oligarchy.
1002 -1105 After the end of the New Heaven war, most of New Heaven was
subsumed into New Condor, and New Heaven ceased to exist.
Due to the atrocities committed during the war, unification
talks have been off again and on again between Kirkhei and Condor for the past
hundred years. The Kirkhei Union is pro Imperium,
while New Condor is wary of the Imperium.
A thousand years of historical differences before the wat further separates
the Vilani and Terran cultures.
Both sides are weary of engaging in conflict after losing 1/3
of the population during the New Heaven War.
Diplomatic relations between the two states remains stable.
