Aftermath The Solomani Rim War 990-1002

1004: "Peace"

Two years after the end of the war, 101 years before 1105.

The Solomani Rim war lasted for 10 years during which the Imperium was forced to divert numerous resources to the war effort, leaving frontiers and borders less secure.  The shortage of Imperial resources led to increased crime and piracy along the frontier.  Some local political entities aka certain “pocket empires” sought to exploit the situation for their own gain.  Others sought to fill the void of law and order that was left when Imperial forces (Uncle Imperium) were no longer available to support free trade and commerce.

Things were already bad in Glimmerdrift in 990, the Archduke was replaced circa 990 due to his own ineptness (malfeasance?).  Pirate activity had increase from 800 onwards and Imperial response had been lackluster.  The new Archduke sought to improve trade and commerce and project Imperial “economic guidance” into the subsector but was soon hampered by the lack of resources, which were redirected to the war effort.

The end of the war brought a sigh of relief, but little actual relief, while Imperial military resources remained engaged occupying Solomani territory and sweeping up the remains of the Solomani fleets and Commerce Raiders.  Some of these Commerce Raiders had ventured as far as the Glimmerdrift Sector.

The rebuilding and replacement of Imperial Naval Assets lost in the conflict became the priority goal of the Imperium's shipyards.  Few, if any, starships were available for export to allies or client states.  The loss of Imperial ships in the conflict meant there were fewer, if any, "surplus" assets for independent polities to purchase and replace or refurbish their own aging or depleted "fleets".

Piracy became more pervasive farther from the Imperial border, creating plenty of opportunities for merchants and ex-military willing to work for traders moving goods among the planets.

The Lords of Thunder have begun their march across the independent planets of the neighboring Lure... Sector, deciding that the Imperium has no resources or the will to engage them in combat, far from their own borders.  The Imperium is however watching and gathering data, knowing that it will have to confront the Lords of Thunder at some point in the future.

Sheridan and other Strong Worlds, exploited the dearth of Imperial resources, finding new customers and opportunities in a space-scape of increasing lawlessness.  Even Imperial client states turned to Sheridan to purchase military supplies during the Solomani War.
